When the Windows failed to start, you can try to start the computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature. Boot your computer and hold your “F8 Key” which should bring up the “Windows Advanced Options Menu”, then use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER. Hence, the system will automatically use the registry backups in normal mode to restore the entire system, solving the Windows startup  problem easily.

If you are able to boot up the computer with the Last Known Good Configuration feature, to ensure the healthy computer performance, you should install anti-virus program to protect the computer. Once a computer is infected by viruses or spyware, numerous files will be attacked and removed from the computer. Besides collecting and stealing personal information, they will randomly change or reset your current computer/browser settings to navigate you to some strange & dangerous pages, stopping you from starting up the computer correctly. A powerful and reliable anti-virus program on the computer helps to realtime protect your computer at any time. But do remember that, a frequent update of the virus database is needed, too!

Besides, a disk defragmentation is indispensable in daily computer maintenance to prevent and fix “Windows failed to start” problem for it will rearrange the contents on the hard disk in order to making a complete file always stays at the same single place coherently and contiguously, Hence it will be much easier to get access to when trying to input or output it. Therefore, the computer may always run at faster speed and also extent the lifespan of the hard disk and the computer.

Last but not least, you should regularly clean up Windows registry. No matter when you install or uninstall a program, or just browse the websites, there will be some junk files or empty registry keys left behind, and all the leftover entries behind a program uninstall process will make the windows registry bloated, causing the computer to run slow like a snail and seriously bring in the “Windows failed to start” problem. have Vista. Today I turned on my laptop and the screen came up sayin Windows failed to start. It gives me the option to “Launch Startup repair” or “start Windows normally.” When I choose to launch the repair, the screen just flashes and comes back up with the same two options. When I choose start windows normally, it begins the startup, but then the blue “crash” screen appears….did as what you said here and the issue was fixed instantly.
