    i have just updated new software on vista and error code 31 comes back ive tried to install it as it instructs but the caution mark still remains on the device manager. Thanks so much for your idea to solve the problem immediately.

    To my experience, the drive is not reading the disc properly which causes an upper stack error therefore causing corruption in the files being loaded.

    Thus why users are getting the code 31 error messages. Either the disc is dirty or it’s usually caused by either a greasy finger or thumb print on the disc. If the disc is clean then the fault points at the drive.

    I was just looking around and saw I have a error, its on Microsoft Adapter #4 with a code 31 error. I have had another before with my cd/dvd hard drive and all I had to do was just remove some keys to fix it. But with no luck! But before I give up, I found your post here. it helps me to handle the problem soon after uninstalling an unneeded application.

    I have an error code 31 on my windows 2000 computer which it is not letting me use my cd-rom at all it dosen’t even show up in my computer file. Thanks so much for your post here as you provide a simple way to fix it without damaging other parts of my computer.
