I’ve just replaced the 2 x 512mb memory chips with 2 x 2gb ones, restarted the laptop (Toshiba Equium A100-338) and everything worked fine. I then went online to the official Toshiba site and downloaded the correct bios update, but this time on restarting, the error code “0251 system cmos checksum bad. Default configuration used” appeared. After reading your post and now I know what it means and how to deal with the problem quickly.

Even though I am not sure you help me or not, I still want to give you a try!
